Historic preservation is underway at the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Sites in Somerset County as part of Revolution NJ, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution and New Jersey’s first Constitution. These sites played a critical role during the Revolutionary era, including serving as the winter headquarters of General George Washington.
This program is led by Paul Soltis, Resource Interpretive Specialist with the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection, who will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the preservation work taking place. Attendees will learn how preservation architects and contractors are using traditional techniques and sustainable materials to stabilize and restore these historic structures for future generations.
The program also includes a public Q&A session, offering an opportunity to ask questions about the sites’ history, preservation methods, and their significance in New Jersey’s Revolutionary story. Participants are encouraged to provide feedback to help inform the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association and the State of New Jersey as they revitalize these landmarks for the legacy of Revolution NJ.
