Somerville Branch Closed Until Further Notice
SOMERVILLE, NJ – August 11, 2025 – The Somerville branch of the Somerset County Library System of New Jersey (SCLSNJ) is closed to the public as of Saturday, August 9, 2025, after testing confirmed the presence of mold in the building. Although the type of mold found does not pose an imminent threat, the closure is a precautionary measure to ensure the continued safety of both staff and the public.
"The health and safety of our community and our staff is our top priority," said Peter Bromberg, SCLSNJ Director. "We are working closely with Somerville to address this issue as quickly and thoroughly as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide updates as soon as they become available."
The branch will remain closed while further testing is conducted and the borough works with the appropriate parties to ensure the mold is remediated. SCLSNJ plans to reopen the Somerville branch once the borough confirms the building is safe for public and staff use.
During this time, the book drops will remain open for returns and patrons can still access all library services at the other SCLSNJ locations. The closest branches to Somerville are the Bridgewater branch (1 Vogt Drive) and the Manville branch (100 South 10th Avenue). Additionally, participants in the Summer Reading Challenge can pick up their prizes from any SCLSNJ location. To discover all locations and hours, please visit SCLSNJ.org.
