English Language Learner Classes

Classes meet 1-2 times a week at some of our branch libraries. Students will focus on speaking, listening, building vocabulary, reading and writing skills.

To register for classes held at our Manville Library branch contact (908)458-8425.

English Conversation Groups

Practice speaking with friendly people who are also working on improving their English. This free, weekly program is for adults who want to feel more confident speaking English.  You will talk about current events, family life, U.S. culture, and more. Groups are led by Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County; leaders are English-speakers and trained volunteers. To participate, you must be at least 18 years old and have a basic knowledge of English.

U.S. Citizenship

Free 8-week U.S. Citizenship courses are held at some of our branches throughout the year. Classes focus on the civics, history, and vocabulary needed to pass the citizenship test and interview. Registration is required.

Classes are taught by Literacy Volunteers of Somerset County or Jewish Family Services of Middlesex County (North Plainfield Memorial Library branch only)
